Who We Are
Leek and District Historical Society is for people interested in the history and development of Leek and the surrounding villages in north Staffordshire. Our mission is to preserve and promote the rich history of this region. We organize events, monthly talks (September to June) and walking tours to help people learn about the
fascinating history of our community.

Monday 11 May:
James Brindley – the father of British canal engineering
AA talk by Shaun Farrelly
James Brindley, who spent most of his life in Leek, had the drive and the technical ability to undertake the vast canal construction projects which would make the industrial revolution possible. Without his incredible contribution, Britain would not have become the dominant force of the Victorian era.
7.30pm at Foxlowe in the Bromfield Room.
Doors open at 7pm. All Welcome.
Non-members £5 (cash or card)
The bar will be open.

Our meeting on June 8th will be a guided visit to the Brindley Mill in Mill Street. Numbers are limited. You can ‘sign up’ at our May 11th meeting.
